In other words what they are hoping to do is to force eBay store owners to delete their lower priced merchandise and force more sellers to use their auction services. The end result of this is that many eBay stores are now closing. We here at Nachthund have already closed our store since we can no longer afford to operate unless we increase our prices above catalog values. There has been a tremendous backlash against eBay over this matter with many feeling that is nothing more then pure corporate greed at a time when eBay is reporting record profits. Presently there is a call for a boycott of eBay auctions from 14 - 21 Aug and another calling for a boybott on 22 Aug when the new rates take effect. We encourage our readers to join in and send eBay a message. In addition to the boycott there are others who feel that Google should step in as the leading search engine and establish an auction site of their own to provide an alternative to eBay. One such group is located at http://groups.google.com/group/auctionplease. Just in the last 24 hours the word has spread and membership in this group has grown to over 650 members. We have noted at least two petitions which are being offered to Google to have them establish an auction site. We encourage everyone to join this group and sign these petitions. What these eBay fee increases mean to our hobby. Over the past few years eBay has provided an excellent source for collectors to obtain banknotes, and for dealers to sell and has had a great influence over the market. Their fee increases however will force many smaller dealers to close up shop. This means less competition, higher prices and fewer offerings. Dealers cannot afford to re-invest their capital in new stock if they are being forced to pay eBay, and the eBay owned Paypal 24 to 30% of every sale. Again I recommend that everyone join in the boycott of eBay and send them a message. 11 Aug, 2006 - Cyrillic To Triumph From EU Rostrum. Today eBay sellers were sent an email informing them that on 22 August fees will once again be raised. They state the cause is due to increased operational costs at the same time that eBay reported a net income of $291.5 million, up from $190.4 million last year and sales jumped 40% to $1.08 billion. (CNNMoney: eBay Profit Surges). The biggest change will effect eBay store owners with Insertion Fees jumping from .02 to .05 for under $25, and .10 for over $25. Final Value Fees will jump 2% for all catagories except over $1,000 and up which remains at 3%. With most banknotes selling on eBay for under $25 these charges, plus what eBay charges for their Paypal service, there is very little profit left for the seller. Less profit means they are unable to purchase as many banknotes to sell and must charge higher prices for what they do sell leaving only those who overcharge left selling on eBay. On the other hand their compitition, such as Bidville.com charge NO Insertion Fee and 5% of the Final Value. Just my opinion. 17 Jul, 2006 - Gambia Gets New Banknotes, Link provided to Daily Observer.
