While we receive almost daily spoof emails which are suppose to be from eBay, or from Paypal asking us to verify our account number and password, this one almost got us. If it had not been for our use of Yahoo it might have downloaded a virus when I clicked on the Respond Button. I received a warning from Yahoo which gave me the option to continue or quit. The email looks almost perfect as a question from an eBay customer which did not receive their items. Looking at the message though it did not contain an item number, the person only used an eBay User Name and when I went into my eBay Account in the Messages section there was no record of the message. To be sure I forwarded it to eBay Security who verified that it was not from an eBay member. Click on the above link to view the message. Remember neither eBay, or Paypal will ever request your data. Report any attempt to gain that data to spoof@ebay.com or spoof@paypal.com by forwarding the message to them. If your brower is capable of adding the full header then do so. In this way they can track the message back to the sender. Since I did not fully connect with their page I am unsure if this was an attempt at virus, or data collection, but they are getting smarter, and they want your money. 29 Aug, 2005 - Iran to Change Currencies, link provided to Finance24. The doctored Polymer notes are being advertized as Printing Errors whereas they have had ink removed from the notes by chemical means. The Indonesian notes have a handstamped "SPECIMEN TIDAK BERLAKU" in red ink on regular issued notes. Indonesian specimen notes have zero serial numbers. Also reported are "Miscut" notes which are actually made from sheets of notes issued by various countries. For more information visit Stane Straus' Polymer Bank Notes of the World. As is often the case Krause has not taken into consideration exchange rates when placing a value on new issues. XE.com lists the BRL at 0.42728 USD. This would come to 10BRL = 4.206USD (Catalog $6.00); 20BRL = 8.412USD (Catalog $10.00); 50BDL = 21.036USD (Catalog $25.00). Now these values would be fine if you could just walk into a bank in Brazil and obtain a note, but in most cases this is impossible. Without a realistic markups in value dealers are unable to obtain these notes, thus collectors are unable to buy them. The end result is in years to come uncirculated examples of these notes will be scarce since the majority of them will have entered circulation. 18 June, 2005 - Colombia's New 1,000 Pesos Banknote, Link provided to numismundo.com 16 June, 2005 - Signature Charts. An examination of several bundles of what were suppose to be P80b revealed notes which with embossed legend, notes without embossed legend, and notes without embossed legend, but embossing on other parts of the note. While it cannot be shown that some notes were intentionally printed without the embossing, it does indicate that some notes without embossing are errors in the printing process. In addition a few examples of the notes with embossing of the legend show the impression of the plate which held the embossing, thus creating a "border" around the embossing. We believe this to be the P80a variety mentioned in The Standard Catalog of World Paper Money. While the catalog value for P80a is the same as P80b, $1.00, it is shown that this variety only appears in 1-2 notes per 100 of the P80b variety making it scarcer. 14 Feb, 2005 - South Korean Government Hesitates to Redesign Banknotes, Link provided to The Korea Times. 14 Feb, 2005 - South Korea Banknotes to Get All-New Look, Link provided to Biz/Tech. 08 Feb, 2005 - Romania's Redenomination of Currenty. At one time Singapore issued it's "Ship" $2 notes, with Prefixs from FA to KZ, printed by seperate companies. According to Tigerson "The answer lies at the back of the note. The top note is printed by Thomas De La Rue and Company Ltd and the bottom note by BA Banknote. One can tell which note belongs to which printer by looking at the round yellow circle at the center of the note. The Thomas De La Rue printer has a dull yellow circle commonly referred to as the 'moon'. The BA Banknote printer has a bright yellow circle commonly referred to as the 'sun'. These pairs are an unusual find and 1 in 812.05 million as the number of $2 ship notes issued by BCCS (now merged into MAS) as at 31 March 2003 was that figure :(Source: MAS) Actually the $2 note is quite special in that 3 different printers have printed the $2 ship notes. Besides Thomas De La Rue and Company Ltd and BA Banknote, Harrison and Sons Ltd had also printed the $2 note." We would like to thank Tigerson for providing this information. 14 Jan, 2005 - Bahrain Monetary Agency (BMA) has Issued First Uncut Banknotes. The new 10,20 and 100 Thousand Indonesian Rupies are printed on paper purchased from the only Russian printer of banknotes and producer of security paper, Goznak. Indonesian Authorities only had to print the design on the Russian-made paper. The security level of the banknotes has been increased significantly according to the Central Bank with 20 unique distinguishing signs. This became one reason why Indonesia returned to the use of 100 Rupie paper banknotes. Earlier the country printed them on plastic purchased from Australia. According to experts the new banknotes have a better security than the euro. Even average users can see the effects of appearing and disappearing colored stripes while tilting a banknote.
