The Philippine central bank has issued 100-peso (about R11,88) bills with the surname of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo misspelled on 20 Nov 2005. Central bank deputy governor Amando Suratos junior assured the public that the banknotes with Arroyo's surname wrongly spelled as "Arrovo" were still legal tender. He declined to say how many of the 100-peso bills were released. Suratos said the bills were printed abroad to ensure sufficient supply of 100-peso bills during the Christmas season. He added that the central bank's cash department has already withheld the release of the rest of the bills that misspelled the president's surname. - Sapa-dpa ADDITIONAL INFORMATION received from Rene Garcia, Philippines: Images provided by Rene Garcia and Ronny Hick |
