Nepal Sim.P50 500 Rupees 2007

02 Oct, 2007 - Nepal has released into circulation on 27 Sept, 2007 a 500 Rupee banknote similar to the P50. Compliments of Claudio Marana.

25 Jan, 2007 - Nepal: First he was removed as head of government after a mass uprising. Then the new government ousted him as head of the army. Now, Nepal's King Gyanendra is set to lose his last bastion - the Nepali currency.

23 Jan, 2007 - Nepal Replacement Notes: We have received the following comment concerning Replacement notes of Nepal from Kai. "I was taking to a Nepalese dealer about some polymer replacement notes I bought from him, and found out some addition information on the replacement note for the current 10 rupees note. The only replacement note for this 10 Rupees polymer (PNL) is Cha 37 (Cha is a Nepalese character). This information came from the Notes and Coins of Nepal published by Nepal Rastra Bank. Then I bought one note recently with Cha 38. I questioned the dealer, and it appears that replacement notes for this issue could extend from Cha 37 to Cha 39 (Cha 40 not sighted yet). In case you want to update the replacement site here are the replacement notes for the 2 Nepal polymer notes:

P45 - Nga 81 to Nga 85
PNL - Cha 37 to Cha 39(?)

NEPAL PNEW 10 Rupees ND ( )

Note is not shown in the SCWPM VOL 3, 11th Ed. Because the notes of Nepal are not dates it is difficult to date them, but believe they are part of the 1998 series. Note bears the signature of Dipendra Purush Dhakal, signature 14. Images compliments of Ronny Hick.

A variety of the Nepal P45 Commemorative 10 Rupees ND (2002) Polymer note has been reported by Kai (Australia) of being printed with a black "mole" on the King's right cheek just below the sideburn. This variety has been verified by Peter Bauer who wrote that "Up till now, 99 notes with this error are known to me. Serial numbers 31 438739 to 31 438838." The note is listed in the Specialized Catalogue of World Plastic Money, 1st Ed. of 11.11.2004. The second edition is now available. Thanks also have to be given to Thomas Krause for his contribution.

2002 ND ISSUE

P46a   P46b
NEPAL P46 5 Rupees ND (2002)

When Nepal first issued the P46a 5 Rupee note the portrait was darker then the rest of the note, thus they withdrew the note and replaced it with the P46b 5 Rupees with a ligher portrait as shown above. The scans may not show the difference as well as they should. The P46a crown is black and very distinct compared to the P46b which shows a little pink in the black thus blending in with the rest of the note. The pink color in the crown is also a dark pink in the P46a while a light pink in the P46b.

NEPAL P47 2 Rupees ND(2002)

The note is listed as P47 20 Rupees in the SCWPM, VOL3, 11th Ed. the Front is actually the 10 Rupees shown above. Note bears the signature of Dr. Tilak Rawal, signature 15.
