27 Sep, 2007 - Mauritius: Mauritian Bank Governor Manou Bheenick late Tuesday, announced the issuance of new banknotes beginning in 2009. He thus launched a design contest for this eighth series of notes, which are expected to develop the various features of the island (history, culture, ecology, industry, architecture and landscape). Similarly, the Mauritian Central Bank will conduct a study on the Mauritian people's preferences about the patterns to include on these new notes. "The idea is to know what the Mauritian people want to see on the banknotes", Bheenick said. So far, no information has been given on the monetary values involved by these new notes.
