23 May, 2007 - Japan: One of Japan's major newspapers has reported that almost all of the 2,000 Yen banknotes have remained stored in the vaults of the Central Bank. Eighty percent of the notes, 724 million banknotes, which were issued in 2000 have not been released into circulation.
