Ronny Hick has brought up an interesting fact that the dates listed in the SCWPM, VOL 3, 11th Edition for the recent issues of Faeroe Islands may be incorrect, or not complete. We have checked numerous websites to determine what dates are available and the results are given below. We have also included the information from the Faeroe Is. Bank website. Collectors are encouraged to send in their data. The date is in the middle two digits of the lower left hand side of the note. |

On 30 November 2004 the new 500-krone banknote was issued. The remaining one banknote in the new series - the 1,000-krone banknotes (P28) - is expected to be issued within summer 2005. The motifs: The primary motif on the notes is a number of Faroese animals. On the face of the notes the animals are untraditionally shown as fragments. On the reverse, watercolours of Faroese landscapes by Zacharias Heinesen (b. 1936) are reproduced. The animal motifs contribute life and variation to the notes, while the watercolours lend a special quality of lightness. Improved security: The security features of the new Faroese banknotes have been improved. One element is an embedded security thread with colour change. Compared to the 50-krone banknote issued in 2001, the 100-krone, the 200-krone and the 500-krone banknotes have a new security feature - a hologram. With the existing security features it makes Faroese banknotes difficult to counterfeit. |

CLICK FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONThe 1,000-krone banknote is issued 15 September 2005. The face of the new 1,000-krone banknote shows a fragment of a purple sandpiper. The motif on the reverse is a watercolour of the view from the island of Sandoy. Format 165 mm x 72 mm. Motifs on the Banknote: The motif of the purple sandpiper is printed in intaglio. The bird is found in the Faroe Islands and has been chosen for the fine details shown by the contrast in its wings. Behind the purple sandpiper, a watercolour of a flock of birds is reproduced. The motif on the reverse is a watercolour of the view from the island of Sandoy. Both watercolours are by Zacharias Heinesen. The P27 500 Kronur and the P28 1,000 Kronur are listed in the SCWPM, VOL III, 11th Ed. as "Expected New Issue".
