18 Feb, 2007 - Brazil: The new signature 41 (Guido Mantega, Ministro de Fazenda, and Henrique Meirelles, Banco Central, appear on banknotes of 5, 10, 20 and 50 Reais. In the last days of 2006 the banknote of 2 Reais was issued with this signature. In examining what notes are available: 5 Reais is with serial number B 5259.C, the previous issue with sign 40 had series B 2792. C. 10 Reais is with serial number D 3439. C, previous issue with sign 40 had series D 0001. C. 20 Reais is with serial number A 7522. A, the previous issue with sign 40 started with A 2126. A (listed in the SCWPM). 50 Reais is with serial number C 8343. A, previous issue with sign 40 had series C 5029. A. I don't know the series where they changed the signature - but maybe a reader can help? On a recent eBay listing the seller states, "100 Reais should not be released with this signature" As far as I know in Brazil it's very difficult to find 100 Reais in circulation because of it's high denomination, and possibly they have enough of the older issues in circulation and do not require a new issue.
